I opened Homespun in August of 2020 and really had no idea what to expect. It was the middle of a pandemic, I was deep into doubt about starting something new and investing time into something I believe in but had no time to spare. Over twelve months later, I can say I have no regrets. I have met so many amazing people along the way. I have some loyal customers and I am so thrilled how they have adopted the system of exchanging jars, sharing reusable bags and growlers and hope Homespun is supporting their low waste journey as it has enriched mine.
My grocery bill is just food now, I have not stepped into Costco once in the past year, my recycling bin and garbage are at an all time low. I have changed my mindset, slowly realizing that I only need what I need, not what I want or worried to run out of. I don’t need to stockpile products, I can shop only for what I need and make it last.
I am by no means perfect when it comes to buying everything that is plastic free, biodegradable or compostable but I am more mindful and avoid single use as much as possible.
Please consider the impact you can make if you chose one product to refill and not send a plastic container to the depot but used it over and over again for years to come. It does make an impact.
Be the change you want to see, we simply have to for the next generation.
With gratitude, Kyla
